The reason I love nudism was that the early pioneers were seriously cool people who challenged the stultifying oppression of 'normalcy'. Encouraging people to think for themselves makes you a dangerous revolutionary, Charles, and I applaud and support that...

Yes. You are very correct. By embracing naturism lifestyle, people will save their hard earned money & may spend it to have better quality of life. Secondly it will also help in the reduction of global warming. For that matter, every person, if decides to reduce their commodity consumption, say even if by 1% year on year. it will surely lower the strain over the natural resources..Naturism is a big step in that direction.

Welfare is the problem, though

Could discounts be offered to welfare recipients to help them get used to clothes-free life? 🥸🦶

A "discount" implies they are paying customers/taxpayers. Which they are NOT. They have not earned the right to indulge in the more niche aspects of life. i.e. naturism; which involves an understanding of philosophy, and ideology. These are higher level thinking that are foe those of us who have met our basic needs of food shelter, and self actualization.

I think perhaps rather than asking people to go naked which is my preference, it may be more likely that people are encouraged to buy and wear sustainable fabrics for longer. Not all climates will let people go unclothed. I have chosen to reject fast fashion and cheap unsustainable clothing some time ago, and going naked is my preferred option. I have long argued that naturist groups should get on the environmental damage bandwagon to help their philosophy as the socially and environmentally responsible option.

The underlying problem is that uppermost in the minds of most people is concern about how other people think about them. They wear clothes (or don't) to signal affiliation with whatever sort of people they most identify with. Realistically, most people don't care at all for what naturists think - except for other naturists. So the opinions of naturists on climate issues will hardly matter. (Color me cynical.)

Even though you may be right, does that mean we shouldn’t try?
